2 Jun 2012 to 3 Jun 2012 - Lake Rotoiti (Ext Day)

Saturday: we have the option of a) either starting part of the Western Okataina route from Lake Rotoiti and coming out on the Lake Okataina Road, or, b) we can leave the Western route for Saturday and do some of the Eastern Okataina track, or c) we can walk to the Tarawera Falls and back. Either options, this should be a moderate day. Staying overnight at an exclusive bach owned by one of our members, bring your best manners and something to share for dinner.

Sunday: The Western Okataina route offers more challenge, graded as a moderate to difficult tramp. The trail follows a ridge to the Okataina Outdoor Education Centre and then along the western heights above Lake Okataina to Miller Road, near Lake Okareka. Noted to be steep in places, the view is apparently worth the effort from Whakapoungakau Trig (758 m).

Book in early, this should be a popular weekend!

A Kaimai tramp, we start the tramp off the Old Kaimai Road, and pretty much do a loop around. This is a lovely day’s tramp, the odd grassy clearing, and we will probably have lunch outside of Hurunui Hut. There are some stream crossings involved which could be slippery.
