Tramp Reflections 813 - Kakepuku
26 April 2009
We visited Kakepuku - a small Volcanic Crater 8km south of Te Awamutu on a misty sort of day, with 3 new trampers aboard.
After walking a short section of farmland to the bush line, it was a steady climb upwards through Tawa, Rewarewa & Kohekohe before emerging at the summit where, on a good day the viewing platform offers magnificent views of the surrounding Waipa and Waikato landscapes. Here we enjoyed lunch before a short sharpish descent.
Some of us were onto it and made it back to the bus in super quick time, however a small group at the rear were not – the skies opened up leaving us wet & unwilling to leave the dryness of the bus for a couple of short walks around Lake Ngaroto and Yardleys Bush on our return to Hamilton. The tramp took three hours return. Thanks Christine & Gail.
