We continue to the Wharekirauponga Falls and after a bit of bush orienteering, will follow a track that will lead us to the Golden Cross Mine, Golden Cross Road end, at Waikino (ie along the Karangahake Gorge).
There are a few treasures to spot, an old Kahikatea tree, and some kauri. Expect a 7-8 hours tramp. One way only, will get picked up at the end.

There will be an option to end early at Minginui bridge for those who feel they are wet and cold enough. This is a fun trip in fine weather. Wet suits are essential. We will be on the river for 4-5 hours. Carry waterproof lunch, including lots of chocolate.

11 Mar 2012 - Mountain Biking
A mountain bike ride for beginners, come along and give it a go. We’ll be riding the Karapiro Section of the Waikato River Trail, grade Easy, 13.7 km. We’ll be cycling there and back so the whole ride will be 27.4 km. Mostly on gravel track but some board walk and tree root sections, plus a couple of small ‘pinches’, but nothing major! It will take around 3 ½ hours including a lunch stop, but will depend on numbers and experience or lack of it; we all have to start somewhere!
You’ll obviously need a bike; there are a couple available for borrowing for anyone about the same size a Nick or Sheila. If you can’t get hold of one we can arrange bike hire at $35 per day, but need to book as soon as possible.

If you‘ve not been tramping before, come along and see what it’s all about, we’d love to see you on our open day tramp. If you’re a club member, we need you to come along and show your friendly faces to all the newbie trampers we’re sure to get for this day.
It’ll be approximately a 4 hours tramp. The day will provide you with an opportunity to walk over farmland with sheep, cattle and goats nearby. There will be views of the Hakarimata Range in the north, Karioi and the coast in the west, Pirongia to the south and Hamilton to the east. After an initial climb you cross gently, rolling pasture studded with outcrops of limestone. The southern end of the track passes through a bush remnant then drops steeply down a farm road crosses Kaniwhaniwha Stream and exits onto Limeworks Loop Road.

2 Jun 2012 to 3 Jun 2012 - Lake Rotoiti (Ext Day)
Tramp cancelled - it was to be:
Saturday: we have the option of a) either starting part of the Western Okataina route from Lake Rotoiti and coming out on the Lake Okataina Road, or, b) we can leave the Western route for Saturday and do some of the Eastern Okataina track, or c) we can walk to the Tarawera Falls and back. Either options, this should be a moderate day. Staying overnight at an exclusive bach owned by one of our members, bring your best manners and something to share for dinner.
Sunday: The Western Okataina route offers more challenge, graded as a moderate to difficult tramp. The trail follows a ridge to the Okataina Outdoor Education Centre and then along the western heights above Lake Okataina to Miller Road, near Lake Okareka. Noted to be steep in places, the view is apparently worth the effort from Whakapoungakau Trig (758 m).

10 Jun 2012 - Henderson Tramline Loop Track
A Kaimai tramp, we start the tramp off the Old Kaimai Road, and pretty much do a loop around. This is a lovely day’s tramp, the odd grassy clearing, and we will probably have lunch outside of Hurunui Hut. There are some stream crossings involved which could be slippery.
