29 March 2009 - Mount Karangahake
The tramp is an easy one so will suit new trampers and those wanting to wind up again for the winter. We do a circuit of Mount Karangahake, rising to a lookout giving grand views of Paeroa, Thames and the Hauraki Plains. We then spiral down the south side of the mountain to the stream (and the old Paeroa water supply pipeline) and come back through the old gold mining area to the car park. There are plenty of relics (equipment, not old trampers) and time will be allowed for the sightseeing. There are three long swinging bridges (dry feet), three tunnels and the famous Windows Walk (a tunnel with windows in the side giving impressive views up and down the gorge).

26 April 2009 - Kakepuku
From the carpark we will cross a short section of farmland to the bush edge, then climb steadily through beautiful stands of tawa and mangeao, then emerge onto a small open area on the southern slope of the mountain. From here it is a relatively easy walk to the summit. From the viewing platform there is a panoramic view of the Waikato. As there are no streams please ensure that you have adequate water; the return trip is 3 hours. This walk is suitable for beginners wanting to experience their first mountain climb. The van will leave at 8:30 am returning to Hamilton 3:00 pm approximately.

17 May 2009 - Pirongia Summit
Pirongia Summit on the Tirohanga Track 4-6 hours return. We will tramp the Tirohanga Track to the summit of Pirongia from Corcoran Rd. From the car park it's a steady climb to the Ruapane Peak where an excellent view extends across the Waikato Basin to the Kaimai Ranges. We then cross an undulating ridge until we come to the Tirohanga Peak, a steep rock pinnacle. The track then descends and climbs till we meet the Tahuanui Track. From here it's a short easy flat walk to the summit where, on a clear day, Mounts Taranaki and Ruapehu can be seen in the distance. This walk can be a bit challenging in places and is guaranteed to be muddy!

31 May 2009 - Waitomo to Te Kuiti
A new section of Te Araroa long pathway has just opened up from Waitomo to Te Kuiti – approx 12 kms. This will be a good day’s tramp. Expect hills with 150 metre ascents and descents. The track is sometimes steep, but it'll be one of our best pastoral outings. We pause on top of high karsts to gaze across the King Country's low agriculture, and tumbled limestone hills rising to formidable volcanic summits – north to Pirongia, east to Pureora, and south to Ruapehu. Also on the lowest land the track enters the Pehitawa Forest. Approximately 6 hours.
